Mainnet
A blockchain's live production network with real value at stake — as opposed to test networks with worthless tokens.
Mainnet is the real network: live consensus, real assets, irreversible transactions. It contrasts with testnets — parallel environments with valueless tokens where developers rehearse. “Mainnet launch” is a project’s graduation from promises to production, historically a major milestone (and price catalyst narrative).
The distinction has practical teeth: sending mainnet assets to a testnet address, or vice versa, is a classic loss scenario, and scammers exploit the confusion by “selling” worthless testnet coins. Before interacting with any network, confirming you’re on the intended mainnet — right chain ID, right explorer — is basic operational hygiene.
