Cross-Chain Messaging

Infrastructure that lets smart contracts on different blockchains send verified instructions to each other.

Cross-chain messaging protocols carry not just assets but arbitrary data and instructions between blockchains — letting a contract on one chain trigger an action on another. This goes beyond a simple bridge: it aims to make separate chains function as one composable system, the plumbing behind cross-chain lending, governance, and applications.

It’s a foundational piece of the interoperability vision — and a concentrated risk. Message-passing systems verify events on a source chain and act on a destination chain; a flaw in that verification has enabled some of crypto’s largest exploits. The security model (who validates the messages, and how) is the whole question. Powerful infrastructure whose safety rests entirely on its trust assumptions.
