Market Cap

A coin's price multiplied by its circulating supply — the standard way to compare the size of crypto assets.

Market capitalization is a cryptocurrency’s price multiplied by its circulating supply. If a coin trades at $2 and 50 million coins are in circulation, its market cap is $100 million. It is the standard yardstick for comparing the relative size of crypto assets — the coin tables on this site rank by it.

Market cap has limits: it says nothing about how much money actually entered an asset, and thin trading volume can make a large market cap misleading. A related measure, fully diluted valuation (FDV), uses the maximum possible supply instead of the circulating supply — a big gap between the two signals that many tokens are still waiting to be unlocked.
