Bitcoin Halving

The programmed event every 210,000 blocks (~4 years) that cuts new Bitcoin issuance in half.

The Bitcoin halving is a programmed event, every 210,000 blocks (roughly four years), that cuts the reward miners earn for each new block in half. It is how Bitcoin enforces its fixed 21-million-coin supply: issuance keeps shrinking until it reaches zero around the year 2140.

The April 2024 halving reduced the reward from 6.25 to 3.125 BTC; the next, at block 1,050,000, will cut it to 1.5625 BTC. Halvings draw intense market attention because each one halves the flow of new supply, and past halvings have preceded major bull markets — though correlation is not a guarantee, and every cycle’s conditions differ. Track the next one on our halving countdown.
