Long Position

Betting an asset's price will rise — the default stance of buying and holding, amplified when leveraged.

Going long means profiting when an asset’s price rises — the intuitive direction, achieved simply by buying and holding spot, or with amplified exposure via leveraged futures. A spot long’s worst case is the asset going to zero; a leveraged long’s worst case is liquidation well before that.

Crypto markets are structurally long-biased — most participants are betting on appreciation, which shows up as persistent contango and positive funding. That crowding is exactly why sharp down-moves trigger cascading long liquidations. Understanding your position as “long” (versus short) is the first vocabulary of directional trading.
