Trust Score condenses an exchange’s market quality into a single 0–10 number. Instead of taking reported volumes at face value, CoinGecko evaluates how trading activity actually behaves — rewarding venues with genuinely deep, consistent markets and discounting numbers that look inflated. The main ingredients:
- Liquidity — order-book depth and bid/ask spreads across major pairs. Deeper books mean less slippage for real traders.
- Scale of operations — overall activity relative to the venue’s size, age and product range.
- Cybersecurity — an independent assessment of the exchange’s technical security posture.
- API coverage and quality — how complete and reliable the exchange’s public market data is.
- Activity anomalies — trading patterns consistent with wash trading are discounted from the “normalized” volume figure shown under the reported 24h volume.
On this page, scores of 8 and above are shown in green, 6 to 7.9 in amber, and anything lower in red. Trust Score measures market quality — not solvency or safety of client funds — so always combine it with your own due diligence before depositing anywhere.
How to choose a crypto exchange
Rankings are a starting point, not a verdict. The right exchange depends on what you trade, where you live and how you fund your account. Six checks to run before you deposit:
1. Security track record
Look for proof-of-reserves attestations, mandatory two-factor authentication, a clean incident history and an insurance or protection fund.
2. Regulation & availability
Confirm the venue is licensed — or at least legally available — in your jurisdiction, and understand its KYC requirements before signing up.
3. Real fees
Compare maker/taker fees at your volume tier, the spread on the pairs you actually trade, and withdrawal fees for your preferred coins and networks.
4. Liquidity
High Trust Score plus high 24h volume is a good proxy: deep order books mean your orders fill closer to the quoted price.
5. Assets & products
Check the coins, fiat on/off-ramps, staking, earn products and derivatives you need are actually offered in your region.
6. Support & reputation
Responsive support and a transparent team matter most when something goes wrong — test them before you need them.

Trust Score is CoinGecko’s 0–10 rating of an exchange’s trading-volume legitimacy. It blends liquidity, scale of operations, cybersecurity, API quality and other factors into a single score. On this page, scores of 8 and above are shown in green, 6 to 7.9 in amber, and anything lower in red.
How often is the exchange data updated?
The ranking refreshes automatically every two minutes using the live CoinGecko API. If the live feed is temporarily unavailable, the table falls back to the most recent cached snapshot and says so in the note above the table.
Which crypto exchange is the safest?
No ranking can guarantee safety. A high Trust Score signals legitimate volume and deep liquidity, but you should also weigh regulation, proof-of-reserves attestations, security track record and insurance funds. Our in-depth reviews cover fees, security and features for the ten largest venues.
What does “normalized” volume mean?
CoinGecko adjusts reported 24h volume to discount suspected wash trading. Where the adjusted figure differs materially from the reported one, we show it beneath the reported volume as “norm.” so you can see both numbers.

No — this ranking covers centralized exchanges (CEXs) tracked by CoinGecko. DEXs such as Uniswap or PancakeSwap are on-chain protocols with no central operator and are measured differently.
