Testnet

A blockchain's rehearsal network with valueless tokens — where developers break things so mainnet doesn't.

A testnet is a parallel version of a blockchain running the same software with tokens that are deliberately worthless and freely obtainable from “faucets.” Developers deploy and attack contracts there, wallets rehearse integrations, and protocol upgrades run on testnets for months before touching real funds on mainnet.

Users meet testnets when trying new apps or chasing potential airdrops for early testers. Two cautions: testnet tokens have no value — anyone selling them is running a scam — and address formats often match mainnet’s, so double-check which network your wallet is on before sending anything real.
