Token Gating
Restricting access to content, communities, or features to holders of a specific token or NFT.
Token gating uses ownership of a specific token or NFT as a key: holders gain access to private communities, exclusive content, events, or app features, while non-holders are locked out. A wallet proving it holds the required asset is the entry ticket — no separate account or password.
It’s one of the more practical, less speculative NFT use cases: creators and projects use it for membership perks, Discord access, and gated experiences, turning a token into a functional access pass rather than just a collectible. The model showcases the Web3 idea of a wallet as portable identity and membership. Its limits are the usual ones — it works best where genuine exclusive value exists behind the gate, not where the gate is the only point.
